Does The Blues Brothers count as a Musical.? If so. It wins the greatest musical of all time by a country mile.

Seen this in lots of places, and couldn't disagree more strongly. I'd accept that's what they tried to do, but the third act is more of an insult to any Star Wars fan than anything the prequels or this trilogy have done.

Still enjoyed it, and great entertainment, but...

Without going into spoilers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker..

I enjoyed it last night (also did the triple bill midnight screening), but it is evidently clear that they had no plan going into this sequel trilogy, we all knew that anyway but TROS confirms it.

If you thought TLJ was an insult then you will at least have a smile on your face during this as it definitely corrects a few things.

What a crammed movie though.

They had 3 movies to tell a singular story, yet because of the "middle one" doing it's own setup, this final movie basically is it's own story and just tries to cram as much as possible within the saga into around 2 hours.

If you like Star Wars you will most likely enjoy this final Skywalker entry.

Driving back from the cinema at 3am my mate and I agreed that in the end, the final trilogy didn't need making

Correct. If they'd made it as a standalone trilogy it could have been genuinely brilliant. It was over burdened by the history and ended up basically undoing everything the first 8 films were about. As two and a half hours of entertainment its magnificent, the issues come from the rewriting of what's happened previously

Be about time for all the lists of best films of the year to come out now isnt it.

Always have trouble remembering what came out earlier in the year or if i just watched something that came out previously.

Pretty confident any of my top 5 lists of the year will include Endgame & Joker then there's a list of about 10 or so films that i cant choose between

Absolutely loved the Book of Mormon, went earlier this year and would go again in a heartbeat.

Went to see the Queen "We will rock you" show years ago on a school trip and i remember enjoying it but not much else.

Other than that not really a fan although i didnt mind the Les Mis film that came out a few years back.

The cats film just looks all kinds of creepy

My Fair Lady is the best I've seen (Anthony Andrews in the Rex Harrison role, and Russ Abbott as Alfred Doolittle), the Madness one was good too with Suggs as the narrator

I absolutely loathe musicals (apart from Oliver and High Society). However, the negative review of 'Cats' from the Telegraph critic makes it sound like the film is so bad it's brilliant. Might have to watch it when it washes up on Netflix.

Re: 2019 Movies
Went to the Episodes 7, 8, 9 triple bill last night. Only the third time I've seen The Last Jedi and to be honest it wasn't that bad.

Rise of Skywalker though? Well let's first say that starting a film at midnight after watching two others back to back and having a cold isn't the best way to watch. And I'm not going to spoil anything here. But it was messy and too long.

A lot of "we're all going to go to this new place to find this new thing which is incredibly important.. right, that's done, let's go to this other important place for this other important thing." And yes, it tries its hardest to bat away TLJ but the methods don't work and just end up retconning plot, ignoring characters or making up really important (but jarring) stuff at the last minute. Even the soundtrack felt too on the nose. It's spectacular to look at of course, has sprinklings of fan service as you'd expect and even a few nice enough pay-offs but it's a big bright loud pudding of a movie.

Driving back from the cinema at 3am my mate and I agreed that in the end, the final trilogy didn't need making.

I'll take my boy to see it over the holidays and might see it in a different (less bleary-eyed light) but right now I'm looking forward to seeing the next episode of Mando today as a palate cleanser.

I'll be downloading it, but will want to at least wait a while until there are serviceable versions online, usually get leaked from Korea or somewhere with perfect quality if you can just ignore the small Korean subtitles at the foot of the screen.

Can't be dealing with the rubbish versions of someone holding a camera in a cinema

Re: 2019 Movies
Create a sperate thread for it if you want to talk about spoilers, then it's someone's own fault if they click into it.

I watched Uncut gems last night Adam Sandler's new one, very different from anything i've ever seen him in before as a tense story and he actually did very well, did not see the ending coming at all.
